William Jefferson Isbelle
DeKALB COUNTY, TN - WILLS
Witness W. J. Isbell clerk at office the 7th day of August 1857 and the year of American Independence the 82nd.
In 1869 he along with Capt. Prettyman Jones and Prettyman Puckett were trustees of the Methodist Church.
In 1870 census of Putnam Co. he was in district 9, and is listed as a school teacher.
In 1880 Census of Putnam Co. TN he was in District 1, and was the Putnam Co. Court Clerk.
Later he was the County Trustee.
He owned the Isbell Hotel in Cookeville, TN.

  i. William Jefferson Isbelle, born December 23, 1840 in Buffalo Valley, Jackson Co. TN; died March 20, 1895 in Cookeville, Putnam Co. TN; married (1) Sara M. Cameron February 03, 1861; married (2) Amanda Helen Starnes August 01, 1867 in Laurel Hill, DeKalb Co., TN.
  ii. Alfred M Isbelle, born Abt. 1842.
  iii. John Isbelle, born Abt. 1845.
  iv. Nancy A Isbelle, born Abt. 1848.

Putnam County was first established on 2 February 1842 creating Putnam County from portions of Jackson, Overton, Fentress, and White Counties.
Rebecca Jones died Between 1850 & 1851 in Buffalo Valley, Jackson Co. TN

In Jackson Co. TN  1850 Census (304) his birth place is given as TN and in his household were also,
Thomas Jones, age 24, and
Hetty Brewgton age 10.

Marriage date February 27, 1851 in White Co, TN
Children of James Isbelle and Melvina Mitchell are:
  i. Mary E Isbelle, born Abt. 1853.
  ii. Washington L Isbelle, born Abt. 1860.

James purchased 50 acres of land from Alfred Jones on Oct 19, 1855.  On Sept 16, 1856 he purchased the interest of James R. Jones in Alfred Jones land.
1860 and 1870 Census he is in District 9, Putnam Co. TN.
He was a farmer and in 1860 Agriculture Census of Putnam Co. he is listed with 75 acres improved land, 75 acres of unimpoved land, 3 horses, 2 mules, 4 milk cows, 2 oxen, 7 other cattle, 20 sheep, and 60 hogs.  His farm produce per year was: 51 bushels wheat, 1 bushel rye, 1250 bushel corn, 60 lbs. wool, 50 bushel irish potatoes, 10 bushel swee potatoes, 50 lbs. butter, and 10 lbs. maple sugar.
