ROSA BELL TAYLOR (EMILENE E. BURGE, JOEL) was born July 26, 1876 in TX, and died November 14, 1939 in Falls Creek, Hico, TX. She married JUSTIN BULLARD in Hill Co., TX, son of ASA BULLARD and SAVILLA HYDEN.

Burial site of Sterling James and Elizabeth Taylor and also Willis Samuel Taylor.  Parlee (Willis's wife is reportedly buried in Madison, TN.)  Have you been to this graveyard?

There are about 50 to 75 markers and most are in good shape but the graveyard itself is in terrible shape.  If you go, go before the snakes come out!  I ran out a couple of rabbits and almost had a heart attack.  Large stumps but no big trees, lot of small ones as in undergrowth type.  There were remnants of a wrought iron fence but not much.  There were a lot of flowers blooming there.  Other families include Johnsons, Williams, McIntoshs, Butlers, Cornelius, and several others.  I believe our three Taylors are the only Taylors.  Graves from as early as 1867 and as late as 1947.  From the markers, it is apparent that someone took pride in the graveyard at one time but it has been abandoned except that someone, probably the church, put a very nice eight foot chain link fence around it to keep the farm animals out.  Since it was once the old church graveyard before the church moved to the other side of the highway, you would think the church would continue to care for it, but they haven't.

According to Logan County Kentucky Cemetery book, Old Red Oak Grove Cemetery is located south of Russellville, Logan Co. KY off the Orndorff Mill Road (Ky. 96) on Ky. 739 on the Buford Shackelford farm about two miles from the present church.  On May 24, 1830 Major Standfield and wife, Elizabeth, made deed to the church trustees for this property to erect a church.  On Feb. 16, 1865 Thomas G. Gooch and wife, Julia, gave deed to the church trustees for property located on the east side of Ky. 96 about six miles south of Russellville, adjacent to Gooches School District later known as Red Oak Grove School, to erect a church, on Feb. 19, 1884, John H. Gooch and wife, Isabelle, gave deed to the trustees for additional property adjoining the church property and on June 28, 1898 B. S. Hooker gave deed to the trustees of Red Oak Grove Church Cemetery for the cemetery.   (They're talking about the Red Oak Grove United Methodist Church)

Notes for ROSA BELLE TAYLOR:
After her Father was shot to death and being abandoned by her stepmother, Rose, about, nine years of age, survived alone.  She was accompanied only by her dog who protected her.  After being discovered quite a while later, by Burge relatives, she was worked like a slave in the fields. She worked ten hours a day hard in the fields. The money she earned was used to pay the lawyer of the man who shot her father.  Her attitude was gratefulness for being taught skills and never showed resentment for her lot in life. Life was hard, but she lived it happy. She loved the Lord with all her heart and lived a life of love.
