Andrew Swallow (the final “s” was later added) was born in Berks County, PA on April 17, 1760. He died on September 30, 1843 and is buried in Overton County in the Roaring River Cemetery. In September 1777, during the Revolutionary War, he enlisted in the continental army where he served for two months during which time he fought near Philadelphia, PA. He found both tours of duty as a substitute (someone paid him to serve in their place, which was common practice in those days for those who could afford it).   Andrew Swallow enlisted again in 1779 and served for one year as a wagoner, hauling ammunition between Reading, PA and White Plains, New York. In the spring of 1780 he moved to Wythe Co., VA where he again enlisted and served one month as a private in
Capt. Buchanan’s Virginia Company. He enlisted in February 1781 and served two months, then later in the year he again served two more months.
After the Revolutionary War ended in 1881, Andrew moved to North Carolina and then to Tennessee. He is believed to have come to Overton County about 1818 or 1819. He received a Revolutionary pension beginning the 4 th of March, 1831 in the amount of $26.66 annually. In his application, he stated that during the war he had seen General George Washington on several occasions.

In the spring of 1785, Andrew married Catherine Kinder, 1755-1847. Catharine had a son named Reuben Finley.

Jacob fought in the War of 1812 in the Battle of New Orleans under the command of General Andrew Jackson. He also served under General Jackson in the Indian Wars.

Jemima Swallows (Oct. 23, 1800).

One of Jacob Swallow’s sons was Isaac Swallows, 1808-1894. He married Frances Hammock, 1812-1897.
