WAR of 1812
According to the Tenessee State Library and Archives , 5 companies of soldiers served form Overton County. They were: Captains John Kennedy, Abel Willis, James Turney, James McConnell, Wiley Huddelston. The names are extremely difficult to read. You may want to order you own copy to double check the names and spellings.
Third? Regiment Tennessee Militia, Capt Wiley Huddelston’s Company.
Raised from men for what is today Overton, Pickett and Fentress
County TN.
In Service form 13 Nov 1814 to 13 May 1815. I acquired two different
rolls from the TN state Archives. There was a little different information
on each. One copy of the microfilm seemed to be a correction to the other.
Each copy of the microfilm had some different information on it. One copy
was extremely difficult to impossible to read.

the 44th Regiment. The unit participated in the conflicts at Murfreesboro
and Chickamauga, served in the Knoxville operations, then moved to Virginia.
Here it saw action at Drewry's Bluff, took its place in the Petersburg

of the 336 at Murfreesboro and thirty-nine percent of the 145 at Chickamauga.
The 25th/44th reported 95 casualties of the 259 engaged at Drewry's Bluff.
On April 9, 1865, the 25th surrendered 4 officers and 21 men. The field
officers were Colonels John M. Hughes and Sidney S. Stanton; Lieutenant
Colonels Samuel Davis, George G. Dibrell, R.C. Sanders, Robert B. Snowden;

Camp Trousdale was on the L & N Railroad near the little village
of Richland Station, now Portland. Here they were organized into regiments,
uniformed as well as possible, armed with Flintlock Muskets and given tents.
Brick ovens for baking were built, the remains of which can be found today.
The camp was north-eastward from Portland and included therein was Cold
Spring School. They later moved Camp Trousdale to a location west
of Portland near the Gas Pumping Station.
