Notes for ANDREW STARNES:
Andrew bought land in Blount County, Tennessee  November 23, 1809 containing 124 acres and 24 poles, within the tract located for the use of Colleges lying in the County of Blount in the District South of French Broad and Holston --the south side of Nine Mile Creek, there being due and changeable ---said land, the sum of One hundred and twenty five Dollars and fifty cents with the interest due thereon.

Moved to Smith county (now Dekalb County ) probably after 1809.

Andrew and Catherine are  buried in Starnes Cemetery (now Lotnoil, Mt. Holly Cem.)
They are buried in Lot 1, Graves #21 (Jerry/Jeremiah), 22 (Mary Ann STOKES), 75 (Andrew), 76 (Catherine
SHERRILL), 111 (Chas./Charles) & 112 (Nancy RAFFERTY) in the Mt Holy
Reinterment Cemetery near Smithville (Dekalb) Tennessee.  The information
came from the Nashville District of the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Starnes, H. Gerald and Starnes, Herman, Of Them That Left a Name Behind, Gateway Press, Inc., Baltimore, MD: 1983, p. 694, and found the following summary of the

353 5th District Henry Starnes, 40, Delila, 38 (both born in TN.), Sarah, 19, Charles, 15, John, 8; Ladina, 4, Catherine, 78 [this appears to me to have been Andrew STARNES' widow, Catherine (SHERRILL) STARNES].
353 5th District John Starnes, 24, Leatha, 28 (born in Tenn. & N.C.), Elizabeth, 6, Meter, 5, David, 2.

Notes for DELILAH SUSANNA STARNES:
Susannah Starnes, dau of Andrew Starnes, married John McGinnis son of William McGinnis.  William was son of Alexander McGinnis Sr.  John had one known brother, William McGinnis Jr, married Gillacy Prior.  William Jr moved to  Izard Co., Arkansas as did the widow Susannah Starnes McGinnis.

Eliza 1839,
Henry 1845,
Frances 1847.
In 1860 Susannah and all her sons were in Izard Co., Arkansas.

Sometime between 1850 and 1860 this family made a big move from Smith County in middle Tennessee to Benton County in west Tennessee.

Henry died about Abt. 1892
His grandaughter, Fannie Lewis, reported that Henry died when she was about 6 or 7 years old, which would have been in the early 1890s.  Nobody knows anything about Lila.

Notes for CHARLES STARNES:

Charles recieved  a land grant for a section of land where Center Hill Dam now stands.  Charles operated a ferry boat that was mule powered at the river near his farm.  This ferry connected the community of Long Branch and Wolf Creek.

Notes for JERAMIAH MORELAND STARNES:
Graves #21 (Jerry/Jeremiah), 22 (Mary Ann STOKES), 75 (Andrew), 76 (Catherine SHERRILL), 111 (Chas./Charles) & 112 (Nancy RAFFERTY) in the Mt Holy Reinterment Cemetery near Smithville (Dekalb) Tennessee.  The information came from the Nashville District of the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Co. C, 23rd Infantry was the unit the Jeremiah Moreland STARNES was in as a Private when he was wounded at the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee.  Those wounds resulted in a very short time in the Rebel Army.  I have documents that show his time in the CSA Army as well as his wounds.  Source page 381, Section 1 - Confederate Rosters. "Tennesseans in the Civil War, Part 2, A Military History of Confederate and Union Units with available Rosters of Persons in Two Parts."  It was published by the Civil War Commission Centennial Commission, Nashville, Tennessee, 1965.

Buried in Cookeville City Cemetery
In 1869 he along with Capt. Prettyman Jones and Prettyman Puckett were trustees of the Methodist Church.  In 1870 census of Putnam Co. he was in district 9, and is listed as a school teacher.  He owned the Isbell Hotel in Cookeville, TN.  In 1880 Census of Putnam Co. TN he was in District 1, and was the Putnam Co. Court Clerk.  Later he was the County Trustee.

James was survived by 5 sisters when he died in 1946: Mrs. Simon Ensor of Springfield, TN; Mrs. Jewell Lee of Nashville, TN; Mrs. J.W.H. Terry; Mrs. W.C. Wade; Mrs. John H. Whitson of Cookeville, TN
He was educated at Washington Academy and Chattanooga University.  He owned handle factory in Baxter and Cookeville, TN.  He was President of Baxter Bank, Chairman of the Trustees of Baxter Seminary Steward Methodist Church and member of Cookeville Lions Club and Odd Fellows.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Isbell Ensor, 84, sister of Mrs. John H. Witson, Cookeville, were held Saturday at the First Methodist Church in Springfield and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.  Mrs. Ensor's death occured Friday at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, following a brief illness.  A native of Overton County, she was th daughter of William and Amanda Starnes Isbell, and was the widow of Rev. Simon Ensor, a Methodist minister, and also a native Putnam Countian.  Rev and Mrs Ensor called Robertson County home for several years while he was a minister at the Springfield and Cross Plains Methodist Chruches.  For 2 years she had resided with a sister, Mrs Jewell Lee of Nashville.  Besides her sister, she is survived by 4 sons, Edward of Miami, FL, Paul of Lawrenceville, GA, James of Galatin, and William of Conyers, GA., 3 daughter, Mrs. Roy Oakley of Livingston, Mrs Christine O'Neal, and Mrs. A. Brunson, Garland Texas; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
