Theresa Paulics was born Sep 26, 1847 in Magyarpolony, Hungary.
She died in 1926 in Hungary, probably Magyarpolony.

There is considerable controversy about Theresa's first name. Her name, Theresa, seems to be agreed to by all parties. Myrle Augustine Carden's notes has her as Grace Theresa. Fabian Adam Augustine's death certificate shows Teresa Elizabeth Palitz according Francis G. Augustine. Louise Augustine Lynch's notes say her name was Catherine Theresa. Len Paulitz records indicate only that her name was Terezia. Catherine Paulitz of Ohio told me on the telephone that she was witness to a considerable argument between the Augustines about Theresa's other name. This was during the time that Catherine lived in Washington, D.C. in the 40's and 50's. I do not know which Augustine's she meant. I'll use Theresa here since that is the way my daughter spells her name.

Theresa's daughters went to Potstown, PA and didn't keep in contact with the rest of the family. George settled in Baltimore, MD. Ben worked in the city as a baker. John went to Alexandria, VA to learn the barber trade. (according to Myrle Augustine)

According to notes made by Kevin Paulitz on a trip to Hungary in 1982 Stephanus(Stephen), later magyarized to Istvan had 6 children, Josef Sept 15, 1841, Janos July 19, 1843, Pal (Paul) Jan 25, 1846, Marie April 25, 1846, Terezia Sept 26, 1847 and Anna April 10, 1851.

These are some of the photographs
that Paul and Mary Lee Carden took when they went to Hungary in November, 1997.

This is a photo of a monument in memorial to Theresa Paulics wife of John Joseph Agoston.

The inscription says something like,
This memorial was erected in honor
of Terez Paulics in the year 1901
by those of her relatives who moved
to America. There are some names
listed below which have been
obliterated by time and weather.

Below are side and front views of the monument.

To the left is a picture of the monument with Paul beside it. Paul is almost six feet tall. The monument shows signs of recent gardening care but is badly weather beaten and leaning to one side. Below is an enlargement of the inscription.

This church in Magyarpolony, Hungary is called
Saint Leslie. Like most churches in Hungary it is
yellow. The graveyard beside the church has many
Paulics, Weisz, and Piller gravestones. No Agoston
stones were found but many inscriptions were so
weather beaten that it can not be said for certain
that there were none. The church was built in 1760
and we are told it still has all its records intact from
that time forward.

The above photo is an enlargement of the left side of the church above. It is intended to show the Terez Paulics monument's close proximity to the church.
