Christine's Autobiography

The following is Christine talking about her life.  This was recorded January 1, 1986.

My name is Myrtle Christine Ensor O'Neal.  I was born in a small village named Ensor.  My father's name was Simon Monroe Ensor, my mother's name was Dora Angeline Isabell Ensor.  They were both teachers when I was born.  And when I was three years old my father became a Methodist minister.  And we lived in several small towns where he was preaching.

I had five brothers and two sisters.  My oldest brother was named Clyde Ensor, my sister Edna Ensor, and I was next, and then my brother Edward, and then Paul, and then James and Sarah and Billy.  We all had a wonderful family life.  My parents were not too strict on us, although they taught us right from wrong and we were punished several times, but not too hard. As I was growing up we went and played in the woods and swung on grapevine swings.

I remember the last time I was punished I was sixteen years old.  My father had told me not to ride my brothers bicycle straddle in the road.  Well I did and he whipped me with a razor strap, and that was the last time I was ever punished.

I was eighteen years old when I married, and I married Curtis O'Neal from Blanche, TN.  We had two little girls.  The oldest one Julia Ann O'Neal, and the youngest Betty Jane O'Neal.  We lived in several different places.  Curtis worked for the Electric Power Company of Tennessee.

We moved over to Lexington, TN.  And we were there not too long when he decided he wanted to get a divorce and leave me.  So he took me to my Mother and Dads' on the fourth of June in one summer.  I raised the two girls by my self with lots of help from Mother and Dad. My oldest daughter is dead, Julia Ann and I miss her very much.

I'v had 3 grandchildren: Ricky Templeton, Margaret Templeton and Gary Templeton all by my daughter Judy( Julia).  By my daughter Betty Jane I had 2  grandchildren: Odis Jr. and Patricia Ann.  And then I have ten great grandchildren now: Gary Jr., Abby, Sarah, and Crystal, and Trey, Chad, and Adam, and Andy, Theresa and Christine.
I am happy, now.   I guess that's about all.  Bye, before you start me crying.
Recorded by Patricia Carden on January 1, 1986.
