Descendants of John Lovelady

Generation No. 1

1.  JOHN LOVELADY was born 1775 in SC, and died 1841 in TN.  He married MARY ELLIS 1808.
(JAMES LOVELADY-  I am assuming James and John are brothers living in the same county.)

"Deed, 100 acres, Jacob Hawick to John Lovelady, acknowledged and ordered to be registered."  The name, Hawick, is another new one to the writer.  We have never before seen it in print.  The other name, John Lovelady, is not known to the writer so far as our ability to identify him is concerned.  We do know that Susan Lovelady married Jeremiah Gammon in the long, long ago.  She survived her husband a nunmber of years and finally becme blind.  She was the grandmother of Mrs. Sue Meador, who died a few years ago four miles south of Lafayette, near Meadorville, at the ripe old age of 92 years.  She was a very fine woman whom we knew personally, having been her pastor for a number of years.
Perhaps the John Lovelady above mentioned was the father of Susan Lovelady, who married Jeremiah Gammon about 150 years ago.  Cal's column -  http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsmith/ccarticles/Nov6-AB-1952.htm

John Gammon is the last-named head of a family listed in the Smith County census of 1830. We think this to have been the John Gammon listed ten years earlier. It is possible that he was the father of Jeremiah Gammon as Jerry married a Miss Lovelady, and two of the nearest neighbors to John Gammon in 1830 were John Lovelady and his wife, both of whom were between 50 and 60 years of age. This John Gammon and wife lived alone, the record indicates, he being between 70 and 80, and his wife 50 to 60. Jeremiah was of an age to have been their son, being in 1830 between 30 and 40 years of age. John Gammon lived near the Robert Gammon above referred to, and the latter could have been John's son.

ii. SUSANNAH LOVELADY, b. 1795, SC.
Mrs. Hargis is a widow, her husband, the late Frank Hargis having died in 1913.  She has a fair knowledge of her ancestors back through a number of years.  Her grandfather was Thomas Gammon, who married Mary Parker more than a hundred years ago.  Thomas Gammon was the son of Jeremiah Gammon, born in Virginia in 1793, supposedly in Pittsylvania County.  He married Susannah Lovelady, born in South Carolina two years after her husband, being blind in her later years.  It is not definitely known to the writer as to the exact year of the coming of the Gammon family to North Middle Tennessee.  However, there are indications that the famiy first settled in White County, Tenn., about 60 miles south of Lafayette, in which county the Rev. Jeff Gammon, a Baptist minister of other years, was born.  - Cal's Column
